Hi, I'm Yuvan Kumar.

I am an award-winning multimedia journalist and photographer – and now graduate student – with a passion for telling compelling stories.

I have written, photographed and facilitated in the fields of art and culture, the future of flight, travel and film.

What fascinates me most are the people that make these stories.

Now at Parsons School of Design studying Transdisciplinary Design, I am fascinated by bottom-up approaches to community building and social innovation. Especially exciting is discovering how the art, design, activism and social change are by no means mutually exclusive.

Past work and experience includes Dove, Dazed, The Sunday Times, Condé Nast Traveller, UNICEF and NME.

Stories have ranged from untangling the complex world of drug smuggling in private aviation to India’s resilient street barbers during Covid-19. And an exclusive on a Nazi-looted Kandinsky painting sold in 1940.

See also Waiting, Watching, Wishing on a balmy day in the Southern Indian states of Kerala and Goa. And this ode to London’s Brutalist architecture.

As well as storytelling through the above media, I have design experience for digital magazines, social media pages and websites (such as this one).
